The Moselle River, as a winding ridge of the region of the same name, Moselle, which often changes its direction, flows northeast from the Rhine and meanders over an area of almost 250 km. The Moselle, together with two small tributaries - the Saar and the Ruver - forms one wine region, which is considered the oldest in Germany. It is the fifth largest region in Germany. Today, half of the vineyards are located on steep slopes and terraces with a slope of more than 30 degrees, and some even 70. On these steep slopes, almost all grapes have to be harvested by hand. Therefore, each vine must be individually tied to a wooden peg. The valley's location makes this region one of the warmest in Germany. The steep slate slopes above the rivers accumulate solar heat during the day and radiate it again at night. The roots of the vine penetrate deep into the earth in search of water and minerals. That is why the winemakers here create unique wines with a fruity character and great depth of taste and relatively low alcohol content - ideal for a refreshing enjoyment. The region is also renowned for its noble sweet wines, with record-breaking prices at auctions every year, as well as the many excellent dry and semi-dry wines that win national and international competitions.
