SKU: ITTUMACWIRE575022 Category:
Cabernet Franc & Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot | Toscana | Italy | Red Wine | Le Macchiole | 2022 | 0,75 L | 14 %
About
Le Macchiole Bolgheri DOC 2022 Rosso is a dry red wine from the Bolgheri region of Tuscany, Italy. It is crafted from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah grapes, representing a modern expression of the region's winemaking. The wine showcases the rich, structured profile typical of Bolgheri, with balanced tannins and a refined finish.
Producer
Dating back to the beginning of the 1980s, Le Macchiole is one of the historic wineries in Bolgheri, and over the years, it has become a reference point for quality Tuscan wine. Founders Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli were among the region’s pioneers, and they contributed in a significant way to Bolgheri’s growing fame thanks to their work in creating wines full of character and personality that have become a symbol of the region. Today, Cinzia runs the winery with the essential support of her sons Elia and Mattia, who have become an important presence at the winery, together with a close team of enthusiastic colleagues. They have become one big family that never ceases to innovate and surprise themselves and one another. Ever changing in order to remain faithful to its original vision, Le Macchiole is in continuous evolution thanks to a careful, contemporary reading of wine and terroir. The conviction to pursue organic farming and an increasingly sustainable approach; a style that has become more and more defined, favoring refinement and elegance; and authenticity and personality have all become the defining characteristics of an historic winery that is nonetheless always moving forward, and always aware of the times.
Tasting notes

Tasting notes reveal aromas of ripe red berries, blackcurrant, and subtle hints of spice, leading to a palate of vibrant fruit flavors with notes of dark cherry, plum, and a touch of tobacco. The wine offers a medium to full body with a smooth texture, balanced by fresh acidity and a lingering, elegant finish.

Pairing

For food pairing, this wine complements well with grilled meats, particularly beef or lamb, and hearty pasta dishes. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses, enhancing the wine’s depth and complexity.

A single-varietal Cabernet Franc wine has medium body and exhibit graphite, green bell pepper and red licorice notes, with darker wines showing more cigar and leather flavors.
Bolgheri is a relatively new but prestigious Italian resort on the Tuscan coast, located in the Maremma, south of Livorno, and named after a town in the north of the region. It is known mainly for its vibrant, full-bodied and undoubtedly valuable red wines, usually produced using French grape varieties from Bordeaux. The wine-growing area has gentle vineyards near the Tyrrhenian Sea. Back in the 1970s, the region had a low reputation for wine production. Here, in a rather swampy area, atypical white and rosé wines were produced. It used to be that this area, unlike the classic Tuscan vineyards, is better suited for other types of agriculture. But that all changed in 1978 when, in a blind tasting run by Decanter magazine, a wine called Sassicaia from Bolgheri surpassed the great wines of Bordeaux.
The hilly terrain and warm climate make Tuscany an ideal region for winemaking. It ranks third by the amount DOC and DOCG category wines after Piemonte and Veneto. Currently the most popular variety is the noble Sangiovese - it is extremely thermophilic and successfully reveals its best traits in warm climates. Wines have a lovely structure, velvety tannins and a fruity aroma, the color is rich ruby red, but the most distinguishable flavor notes are cherries, raspberries and spices.
