Domaine de la Pepiere Muscadet-Sevre-et-Main 2024

SKU: FRLODLPWIWH175024 Category:
Melon de Bourgogne | Loire | France | White Wine | Domaine de la Pepiere | 2024 | 0,75 L | 11 %
About
Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine 2024 is a dry white wine made entirely from Melon de Bourgogne grapes in the Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine appellation of the Loire Valley, France. The vineyard follows organic / biodynamic viticulture, and the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and typically aged on its lees, which enhances texture and minerality. The wine expresses strong terroir character from the Granitic soils of the Pays Nantais region, with maritime influences helping maintain freshness and crispness.
Producer
On the very border of Brittany, in the village of Maisdon-sur-Sèvre, there is the Domaine de la Pépière winery. Mark, who grew up in the village of La Pepierre, created the winery in 1984. The name La Pépierre comes from the French word "pépie" (thirst). Walking over the village, on the slopes where the grapes grow, it is easy to understand the origin of the name. Over the years of development, the winery "Domaine de la Pépière" acquired new sites, closely monitored the quality and age of the vines, as well as the originality of their terroirs.
Tasting notes

On the nose, expect aromas of green apple, lemon zest, and sea spray, overlain by slatey minerality and hints of citrus blossom. The palate is crisp, lively and lean, with salinity and bright acidity driving forward flavors of lime, pear, and a touch of wet stone. The finish is refreshing and clean, with an elegant mineral backbone and long, savoury aftertaste.

Pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with oysters, shellfish or fresh seafood, where its acidity and saline notes complement the briny flavours. It also works well with goat cheese, sushi or light vegetable dishes like zucchini ribbons or salads featuring fresh herbs.

Melon de Bourgogne variety tipically has high acidity, but often struggles to develop good concentration of aromas. The best wines have green apple and lime flavors, covered with mineral notes and light salty hints.
Muscadet-Sevre-et-Maine
This region is located on the Left bank almost next to the ocean. The local winemakers are very meticulous and careful, therefore are known for very qualitative wines. They are produced form Melon de Bourgogne grapes that are cultivated near and on the banks of the River Sevres and the River Maine. The fresh, creamy wines with green apple and iodine notes in the aroma are recommended to be consumed after a few years of ageing. A perfect partner for oysters.
Loire is one of the biggest regions in Northern France. This beautiful valley that stretches more than 300 km in length has been the inspiration of poetry and art throughout the ages. The dominant grapes are different in each part of Loire, and this is the only region in France that produces equally good white, red, rose, dessert and sparkling wines.
