Tasting notes

On the palate, Tenuta Ulisse’s Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2022 presents a rich tapestry of ripe red fruits, notably cherries and plums, accented by nuances of vanilla, spice, and a hint of leather, culminating in a smooth, well-rounded finish. The wine’s structure and depth are complemented by a lively acidity, making it both robust and accessible.

Pairing

This Montepulciano d’Abruzzo pairs beautifully with hearty pasta dishes, especially those featuring tomato-based sauces and meat, where the wine’s fruitiness and acidity cut through the richness of the sauce. It also complements grilled meats and aged cheeses, where the wine’s robust character and savory undertones enhance the flavors of the food, creating a satisfying and flavorful dining experience.

Montepulciano red wines are appreciated for their soft jammy flavors, strong purple color and gentle tannins. The main aromas are dark cherry, earth, spices, cocoa and tobacco tones.
At first, the wines of this region were intended for the production of passports, but recently more and more wineries have started to produce quality wines in small quantities instead of table wines. Abruzzo has only one DOCG and three DOCs whose reputations are closely monitored. Trebbiano, Chardonnay, Malvasia, Muscar, Viognier and Pinot Gris are the dominant white grapes, while the reds Motepulciano, Cabernet Franc, Gamay, Sangiovese and Shiraz are also common.
