94/100 from 9 Critic Reveiws

Vietti “Ravera” Barolo DOCG 2021 is an exceptional single-vineyard (MGA – Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva) Barolo crafted from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in the renowned Ravera vineyard in the commune of Novello, Piedmont. This celebrated site is characterised by limestone and clay soils, producing wines of remarkable structure, elegance, and pronounced minerality. The 2021 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest in recent years for Barolo, combining concentrated fruit, vibrant acidity, and beautifully refined tannins. Traditional ageing in large oak casks allows the Ravera terroir to shine, creating a Barolo with outstanding complexity and the potential to evolve gracefully for decades.

The bouquet reveals red cherry, wild berries, and rose petal aromas layered with licorice, tar, dried herbs, orange zest, tobacco, and crushed stone nuances. Full-bodied, concentrated, and beautifully structured on the palate, the wine displays fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and an exceptionally long mineral finish.

Perfect with beef tenderloin, slow-roasted lamb, game, truffle risotto, wild mushroom dishes, and long-aged cheeses. Its depth, structure, and elegance make it an exceptional companion to fine dining and memorable occasions.

Nebbiolo wines tipically have rich, but elegant tannins, high acidity and unic scent – often characterized as "roses and tar". After a few years of vintage, most Nebbiolo wines begin fading from intensive ruby to a glorious brick orange color and developing flavors of mushroom, moss, leather and black pepper.
Barolo wines are the best Nebbiolo can offer - they are luxurious and sophisticated. At young age these wines show uncontrollable temper with sharp and high tannins and almost searing acidity, though already noticeable aromas of violets, red currant and licorice. With age the wine bouquet acquires the wealth and fullness deprived in its youth as the taste becomes more rounded, adding peppery tones and shades of red berries, but the aromas are replaced by flavors of tobacco, leather and tar. Barolo wines are worth saving for important occasions - they are excellent even after 20 years of aging.
