Newton-Johnson "Southend Chardonnay" Walker Bay 2024 is a refined 100% Chardonnay from the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in Walker Bay, one of South Africa's premier regions for Chardonnay. The cool maritime climate, clay-rich and granite-derived soils, and significant diurnal temperature variation produce wines of exceptional freshness, concentration, and minerality.
The wine is fermented and matured in French oak barrels on its fine lees, developing depth, a creamy texture, and beautifully integrated oak while preserving the purity of the fruit. The 2024 vintage combines richness, precision, and remarkable balance, showcasing the world-class potential of Walker Bay Chardonnay.
The nose reveals aromas of lemon zest, white peach, ripe pear, and white blossom, layered with hazelnut, butter, flint, and lightly toasted bread. On the palate, the wine is elegant, juicy, and concentrated, with vibrant acidity, a creamy texture, and pronounced minerality. The finish is long, fresh, and refined, with lingering notes of citrus, toasted nuts, and a subtle saline edge.
