About
Muga "ARO" Rioja 2019 is an ultra-premium dry red wine, meticulously crafted from an exquisite selection of Tempranillo and Graciano grapes, sourced from the renowned Rioja region of Spain. This exceptional wine represents the pinnacle of Muga's winemaking artistry, undergoing an extensive aging process in new French oak barrels to achieve unparalleled depth and complexity. "ARO" is distinguished by its limited production, focusing on the highest quality grapes and meticulous attention to detail in every step of the vinification and aging process, making it one of the most sought-after wines for collectors and connoisseurs.
Producer
Muga Winery has always used the highest quality raw materials and new production methods that provide increased quality without losing any authenticity. They use a traditional approach in the production of all their wines: Wine decanting is done using gravity, which is the traditional method. They are also the only winery in Spain with a master brewer and three in-house boarders. As they themselves say: "Since 1932, we are proud to give a name to a great wine." This terroir is one of the terroirs that best captures the character of the wines produced in Haro. The geological and climatic characteristics of the terroir give the wine a special character with remarkable aging potential, making El Estepal unique in the La Rioja region. A few miles from Haro lies a plateau with a very unusual geological structure, sheltered from the cold northerly winds. In short - La Loma is an excellent terroir. The first vineyards of the Muga family are located here. The high quality of our finest wines is ensured by this beautiful area. Here the grapes of Tempranillo, Mazuelo / Carignan and Graciano are grown and wonderful wines are produced. This terroir is an example of the family's efforts to ensure quality in the future. Muga is constantly investing in the best soil in the area. We try to provide our vines with not only the best quality terroirs, but also carefully work to select the best specimens for planting. These vineyards are at the highest point of the La Rioja region and are at the very edge of our territory. There are only a few winemakers who grow grapes in such harsh conditions, but our special growing system allows us to grow high quality grapes and unleash the potential of each of our terroirs. The resulting grapes have very good acidity values and excellent aging potential.
Tasting notes

The tasting profile of Muga “ARO” Rioja 2019 is marked by its intense aromatic complexity, featuring layers of dark fruits like blackberry and currant, elegantly fused with notes of spice, cocoa, and a hint of minerality. On the palate, it unfolds with a powerful yet refined structure, offering a velvety texture with perfectly integrated tannins and a kaleidoscope of flavors that include dark cherry, espresso, and a subtle touch of vanilla, culminating in a long, persistent finish. This wine’s rich flavor profile and elegance are a testament to the exceptional terroir of Rioja and the meticulous craftsmanship of Muga’s winemaking.

Pairing

When it comes to food pairing, Muga “ARO” Rioja 2019 is best matched with sophisticated dishes that mirror its complexity and depth, such as roasted lamb shanks, beef Wellington, or a rich truffle risotto. Its bold character also makes it an ideal companion to intense flavors found in aged cheeses or charcuterie, allowing the intricate layers of the wine to be fully appreciated. These pairings highlight the wine’s luxurious nature and its capability to elevate a fine dining experience.

Graciano wine is medium tannic, it has deep color and intensive bouquet, with hints of blackberry, chocolate and violets. Usually this wine is aged in oak and aromas are complemented by sweet spices and vanilla.
Rioja in northern Spain is best known for its barrel-aged, berry-flavored red wines made from Tempranillo and Garnacha grapes. Undoubtedly, this is the largest wine-growing region in Spain. And, by far, the most famous region of the country. All vineyards are concentrated around the banks of the Ebra River. Their area is about 64,000 hectares, of which 91% are planted with red grapes. Rioja itself is divided into three parts: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja East. Rioja Alta is located in the western part of Rioja. As the name suggests, the vineyards are located higher in the region than Rioja Baja. The soils contain more clay, iron and alluvial elements and less limestone than the neighboring soils in Alavesa. Wines are considered elegant, with balanced acidity. Rioja Alavesa consists of two separate parcels of land located next to Rioja Alta. The vineyards are at the same elevation as Rioja Alta and the microclimate is also very similar. However, soils tend to contain more limestone than Alta, so wines can have higher acidity. In eastern Rioja (Rioja Baja), the climate is much more strongly influenced by the Mediterranean Sea. It is drier and warmer here than in the other two parts of the region. Here, more emphasis is placed on the Garnacha variety. Wines can be fuller than in neighboring sub-regions.
