About
Markus Molitor Riesling "Haus Klosterberg" Trocken 2021 is an exquisite dry white wine, crafted from Riesling grapes meticulously selected from the steep, sun-drenched slopes of the Mosel region in Germany. This wine embodies Markus Molitor's unparalleled expertise and passion for Riesling, showcasing a trocken (dry) style that highlights the grape's potential for crisp acidity, nuanced aromatics, and profound minerality. The "Haus Klosterberg" Trocken is a celebration of the Mosel's unique terroir, offering a wine that is both intensely flavorful and elegantly structured, reflective of the winemaker's commitment to producing wines of exceptional quality and character.
Producer
"80% slope - 94% Riesling - 100% passion." In 1984, at the age of 20, Markus Molitor took over the management of the winery from his father with a clear goal: to produce the Riesling of the Moselle region under the name Molitor in the tradition of eight generations, the quality of which made the region famous all over the world 100 years ago. “Learning from the past” - this uncompromising pursuit of quality, manual labor, screening and harvesting of grapes, precision in processes, unique experience and knowledge of nature, grapes and wine production allow each terroir and vintage to be fully revealed in the taste of wine. Markus Molitor wines perfectly demonstrate the potential of the Moselle terroir - combining structure and depth of taste with freshness and elegance. The winery is located in the center of the Wehlener Klosterberg estate and uses grapes from 15 vineyards in different locations. Each of the vineyards is unique, which makes it possible to call them "Molitor terroirs".
Tasting notes

The 2021 vintage exudes vibrant aromas of lemon, green apple, and a hint of pear, accented by floral undertones and a distinctive slate-like minerality, a signature of the region’s wines. On the palate, it delivers a lively acidity and a sleek, medium-bodied texture, revealing layers of citrus fruits, white peach, and a crisp, mineral finish that is both refreshing and lingering. This Riesling’s dynamic interplay between fruit and minerality makes it a sophisticated and compelling expression of the varietal.

Pairing

Pairing the Markus Molitor Riesling “Haus Klosterberg” Trocken with fresh seafood dishes, such as grilled trout or oysters, can highlight the wine’s crisp acidity and mineral complexity, creating a harmonious and flavorful dining experience. It also pairs beautifully with lighter fare, such as goat cheese salads or simple vegetable dishes, where the wine’s brightness and clean finish complement the freshness of the ingredients. These food pairings not only enhance the enjoyment of the wine but also showcase its versatility in accompanying a diverse range of culinary styles.

The Moselle River, as a winding ridge of the region of the same name, Moselle, which often changes its direction, flows northeast from the Rhine and meanders over an area of almost 250 km. The Moselle, together with two small tributaries - the Saar and the Ruver - forms one wine region, which is considered the oldest in Germany. It is the fifth largest region in Germany. Today, half of the vineyards are located on steep slopes and terraces with a slope of more than 30 degrees, and some even 70. On these steep slopes, almost all grapes have to be harvested by hand. Therefore, each vine must be individually tied to a wooden peg. The valley's location makes this region one of the warmest in Germany. The steep slate slopes above the rivers accumulate solar heat during the day and radiate it again at night. The roots of the vine penetrate deep into the earth in search of water and minerals. That is why the winemakers here create unique wines with a fruity character and great depth of taste and relatively low alcohol content - ideal for a refreshing enjoyment. The region is also renowned for its noble sweet wines, with record-breaking prices at auctions every year, as well as the many excellent dry and semi-dry wines that win national and international competitions.
