Kanonkop Estate Pinotage Stellenbosch 2022 is an outstanding 100% Pinotage, South Africa's signature grape variety, created by crossing Pinot Noir and Cinsaut. The grapes are sourced from Kanonkop's historic vineyards in Stellenbosch, where decomposed granite soils and a Mediterranean climate produce fruit of exceptional concentration, freshness, and structure. Following traditional fermentation, the wine is matured in French oak barrels, adding depth, complexity, and beautifully integrated oak. The 2022 vintage is defined by its impressive balance of ripe fruit, vibrant acidity, and refined tannins, making it approachable in its youth while offering excellent ageing potential.
The nose reveals aromas of ripe blackberry, plum, and black cherry, layered with violet, dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla, and sweet spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, juicy, and concentrated, with generous dark fruit flavours, vibrant acidity, and fine-grained, firm tannins. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, with lingering notes of cocoa, spice, and a subtle smoky nuance.
An excellent pairing for grilled beef steak, roast lamb, duck breast, venison, smoked meats, barbecue dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Its concentration, velvety texture, and spicy complexity make it an ideal companion to richly flavoured meat dishes.
