About
Roagna Langhe DOC 2018 is a dry red wine, crafted from a blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes, sourced from the esteemed Langhe region in Piedmont, Italy. This wine exemplifies Roagna's dedication to traditional winemaking practices, focusing on low yields and extended maceration to express the unique terroir and complexity of the Langhe vineyards. The 2018 vintage is noted for its balance and depth, offering a refined and authentic taste of Piedmont's rich winemaking heritage.
Producer
Luca Roagna is the youngest generation of winemakers in this winery and works side by side with his cheerful father Alfredo. From 15 hectares of vineyards, both Barbaresco and Barolo are produced here. The history of the family begins in the commune of Barbaresco, where Luca's grandfather acquired the Pajé vineyard in the 1950s. To understand the wines of the Roanha dynasty, it is important to know that winemakers adhere to the principle of the development of the biological variety sélection massale (renewal of vineyards using cuttings of old vines), as well as the fact that grapes are harvested from ancient vineyards (some are more than 100 years old - for example, in the commune of Falleto ). The wine selection is dominated by three Cru Barbaresco: Pajé, Crichet Pajé and Pajé Riserva; the difference lies in the direction in which the vineyards are oriented and in the age of the vines. The Roanha family has never been afraid of innovations and since 1982 they have been offering a mixture of Nebbiolo grapes from different years: vino di tavola - a table wine called Opera Prima, and since 1988 - a mixture of white wines Solea, Chardonnay and Nebbiolo.
Tasting notes

On the palate, it presents a harmonious blend of bright acidity and fine tannins, with flavors of ripe red fruits, licorice, and a subtle minerality, leading to a long, elegant finish. This wine is celebrated for its complexity, structure, and the expressive nature of its varietals.

Nebbiolo wines tipically have rich, but elegant tannins, high acidity and unic scent – often characterized as "roses and tar". After a few years of vintage, most Nebbiolo wines begin fading from intensive ruby to a glorious brick orange color and developing flavors of mushroom, moss, leather and black pepper.
The Langhe is a mountainous region of Piedmont located east of the Tanaro River and south of the capital of Alba. Lange has a long history of winemaking, and many of the wines produced here use traditional, well-established grape varieties such as Arneis and Vermentino for white wines, and Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Freisa for reds. Since its official launch in November 1994, Langhe DOC has built a significant reputation for innovative viticulture. The Langhe wine region, known as the 'quality triangle', is made up of a unique combination of climate, soil and local varieties that create a rich wine range. Also, one cannot fail to note the passion and obsession of local producers who fully devote their whole life to serving their land.
