About
This is a dry red wine from Toscana IGT, combining ~90% Sangiovese with ~10% Canaiolo (plus minor Colorino). Harvested from a 2.5 ha parcel, planted in 1982. Fermented traditionally and aged in Slavonian oak barrels for a minimum of 24 months, followed by bottle aging. The mouthfeel is rich, explosive and structured, yet balanced and refined. Ideal served at 16–18 °C with red meats, game or aged cheeses. Drink now (with decanting) or cellar toward 2040.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby with violet hues. The bouquet offers complex aromas of floral and red fruit, including red currant, iris root, rose and spice nuances. Medium-bodied on the palate with refined, racy tannins, bright acidity and precise minerality. The finish is long and evolving—structured yet elegant.
Pairing
Montevertine, situated in Radda in Chianti, Tuscany, is an independent estate that withdrew from the Chianti DOCG in 1981. The flagship “Montevertine” Toscana IGT is crafted primarily from Sangiovese (≈90%) with Canaiolo and Colorino. Grapes are sourced from a 2.5 ha south-facing vineyard planted in 1982. The wine is aged at least 24 months in Slavonian oak, followed by further bottle aging.

Montevertine
Canaiolo
Canaiolo makes for elegant and juicy red wine with elegant aromatics and gentle tannins. It blends exceptionally well with Sangiovese and it can underline herbaceous flavors found in the blend.
Toscana
The hilly terrain and warm climate make Tuscany an ideal region for winemaking. It ranks third by the amount DOC and DOCG category wines after Piemonte and Veneto. Currently the most popular variety is the noble Sangiovese - it is extremely thermophilic and successfully reveals its best traits in warm climates. Wines have a lovely structure, velvety tannins and a fruity aroma, the color is rich ruby red, but the most distinguishable flavor notes are cherries, raspberries and spices.
