R.Lopez de Heredia Rioja Gran Reserva “Tondonia” 2004
Sommelier recommends
“The nose reveals aromas of dried strawberry, blackcurrant, plum, and sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is elegant and smooth, with notes of sweet spices, cherry, and tobacco. The tannins are soft and silky. The finish is exceptionally long.” — Ronalds Pētersons, Sommelier at Noble Wine2 in stock
Wine Searcher review
Dry red Rioja Gran Reserva. A blend based on Tempranillo (with Garnacha, Graciano, Mazuelo), aged for many years in American oak. This is a mature, savory Rioja with structured tannins, complex spice and earthy character.
The 2004 Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva is a beautifully aged Rioja with savory and classic character. On the nose, expect dried blood‑orange peel, white pepper, spice, forest floor, hint of tea and red fruit. On the palate, vibrant acidity supports structured tannins and a dry, refined delivery. The finish is long and persistent, with savory depth and subtle mineral notes
Bodegas López de Heredia, founded in 1877, is one of Rioja’s most traditional estates. The Viña Tondonia line ages wines for extended periods in large American oak barrels—far beyond legal minimums—producing remarkably sophisticated and ageworthy Gran Reservas.
