Prieler "Leithaberg" Blaufränkisch DAC 2022 is an expressive 100% Blaufränkisch from the Leithaberg DAC in Burgenland, Austria. The vines are planted on the slopes of the Leitha Mountains, where limestone and slate soils, combined with the Pannonian climate, produce wines of remarkable minerality, freshness, and elegant structure.

Following traditional fermentation, the wine is matured in oak barrels, preserving the purity of the variety and the expression of its terroir while adding depth and refinement. The 2022 vintage offers an outstanding balance of concentration, energy, and elegance, highlighting Leithaberg's reputation as one of the world's finest regions for Blaufränkisch.

The nose reveals aromas of fresh black cherry, blackberry, and wild berries, layered with violet, black pepper, juniper, and subtle mineral nuances. On the palate, the wine is dry, juicy, and elegantly structured, with vibrant acidity, fine-grained tannins, and expressive dark fruit flavours. The finish is long, fresh, and mineral-driven, with lingering notes of pepper and gentle earthy complexity.

An excellent pairing for grilled lamb, roast duck, game, beef steak, mushroom dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Its freshness, spicy character, and mineral structure beautifully complement richly flavoured meats and earthy mushroom dishes.

Classic Blaufrankisch wines are deep colored, medium-bodied reds with intensive black-fruit aromas, soft bitterness and spicy aftertaste.
Burgenland is a large wine-producing region on the eastern border of Austria. Despite the country's image as the world's best white wine producer, Austria is also home to a thriving red wine culture: Burgenland, with its sunny, continental summers, is the country's main red wine region, based on the Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt grape varieties. The region occupies a narrow strip of land that runs from the Danube River down to Steiermark in the south. On its eastern side is the border with Hungary, and to the west are the eastern foothills of the Alps. Steiermark, Burgenland is one of Austria's southern wine regions and is topographically more aligned with Hungary than most of the rest of Austria. Burgenland is home to four DAC appellations: from north to south; Neusiedlersee, Leithaberg, Mittelburgenland and Eisenberg. In each of these zones, all wines that do not meet the specific classification are labeled with the Burgenland appellation. Lake Neusiedl (Neusiedlersee) in Burgenland is one of the focal points of the region's viticulture. It stores the summer heat from the Pannonian Plain, a vast and warm area covering much of Hungary and eastern Austria, extending the ripening season into autumn. Unlike other Burgenland DACs, all Leithaberg DAC wines have qualified. Red wines should mainly be made with Blaufränkisch. The white grape varieties are Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Neuberger and Grüner Veltliner in varietal form or as a blend. Mittelburgenland, south of the Neusiedlersee, is perhaps the most notable of Burgenland's red wine regions. The spicy red wines made here from Blaufränkisch have earned the region its own DAC title, and the variety makes up more than half of the region's entire vineyard land.
