About
Cantine Polvanera Primitivo Gioia del Colle DOC “14” 2022 is a dry red wine crafted from Primitivo grapes in the renowned Gioia del Colle region of Puglia, Italy. Produced organically, it expresses the unique limestone-rich terroir and high-altitude vineyards that bring freshness and elegance to this southern Italian classic. The wine showcases a deep, intense ruby color and a refined yet powerful character typical of the estate's style.
Producer
In 2003, continuing his family's farming traditions, Filippo Cassano embarked on an ambitious project to popularize Primitivo grapes and other local varieties used in his native land to create excellent quality wines. To this end, he acquired and restored an old estate in the Marquesan region, near Gioia del Colle. The gardens surrounding the estate were home to the wonderful Primitivo vines, which were planted between 1860 and 1880. The word Polvanera in the winery's name indicates the typical dark color of the fields. A modern wine cellar with a masonry tasting room has been built next to the estate. In a cellar carved in limestone, the temperature and humidity of the air remain constant throughout the year, and the cellar itself goes underground in places to a depth of eight meters and serves as a quality mark for the excellent Polvanera products. It is here that Polvanera wines mature and develop before they become Primitivo Gioia del Colle DOC.
Tasting notes
The nose reveals concentrated aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, plum, and delicate violet notes. On the palate, it offers rich dark fruit flavors accompanied by hints of licorice, cocoa, and warm spices. Well-structured tannins and lively acidity lead to a long, harmonious finish.
Pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled red meats, hearty pasta dishes, and aged cheeses. It also complements traditional Apulian cuisine such as orecchiette with tomato-based sauces or lamb stews.

Primitivo
Primitivo is a dark-skinned grape famous for producing dark, bold, tannic wines, with very intensive jammy bouquet with spice hints. Primitivo styles ranges from medium to full-body with slightly sweet aftertaste.
This wonderful land is rich with olive trees and wine. However for a long time the Puglia region wines had a notoriety of being "flat" and highly alcoholic. Local winemakers were able to overcome this situation as the wine and become more diverse.
