Markus Molitor Pinot Noir “Einstern” Trocken 2020

SKU: DEMOMOLWIRE1875020 Category:
Pinot Noir | Mosel | Germany | White Wine | Weingut Markus Molitor | 2020 | 0,75 L | 13 %
About
A dry Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) from Germany’s Mosel region, labelled “Einstern” style—elegant, light and perfumed. Fermented in stainless steel with minimal lees contact.
Producer
"80% slope - 94% Riesling - 100% passion." In 1984, at the age of 20, Markus Molitor took over the management of the winery from his father with a clear goal: to produce the Riesling of the Moselle region under the name Molitor in the tradition of eight generations, the quality of which made the region famous all over the world 100 years ago. “Learning from the past” - this uncompromising pursuit of quality, manual labor, screening and harvesting of grapes, precision in processes, unique experience and knowledge of nature, grapes and wine production allow each terroir and vintage to be fully revealed in the taste of wine. Markus Molitor wines perfectly demonstrate the potential of the Moselle terroir - combining structure and depth of taste with freshness and elegance. The winery is located in the center of the Wehlener Klosterberg estate and uses grapes from 15 vineyards in different locations. Each of the vineyards is unique, which makes it possible to call them "Molitor terroirs".
Tasting notes

Dark ruby with garnet highlights. Aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant and earthy spice, complemented by a hint of pepper and minerality. Medium-bodied with smooth tannins, bright acidity and a long, elegant finish.

Pairing

Excellent with light meat dishes such as game birds, roasted duck, tuna carpaccio or mild red meats. Also pairs well with mushroom risotto or dishes with berry sauces.

Wine Searcher review

92/100
Pinot Noir has very aromatic profile, very fresh acidity and low level of quaite soft tannins. The nature of Pinot Noir wine is its flavors of red berries and cherry (red sour cherries in lighter wines and cooked black cherries in bold examples). This wine matures very exating, developing notes of berry jam, violets, leather, moss and mushrooms.
The Moselle River, as a winding ridge of the region of the same name, Moselle, which often changes its direction, flows northeast from the Rhine and meanders over an area of almost 250 km. The Moselle, together with two small tributaries - the Saar and the Ruver - forms one wine region, which is considered the oldest in Germany. It is the fifth largest region in Germany. Today, half of the vineyards are located on steep slopes and terraces with a slope of more than 30 degrees, and some even 70. On these steep slopes, almost all grapes have to be harvested by hand. Therefore, each vine must be individually tied to a wooden peg. The valley's location makes this region one of the warmest in Germany. The steep slate slopes above the rivers accumulate solar heat during the day and radiate it again at night. The roots of the vine penetrate deep into the earth in search of water and minerals. That is why the winemakers here create unique wines with a fruity character and great depth of taste and relatively low alcohol content - ideal for a refreshing enjoyment. The region is also renowned for its noble sweet wines, with record-breaking prices at auctions every year, as well as the many excellent dry and semi-dry wines that win national and international competitions.
