Le Macchiole Bolgheri Rosso DOC 2024 is the estate's elegant introduction to the Bolgheri style, crafted from a blend of Bordeaux grape varieties, with the exact proportions varying according to the vintage. The fruit comes from the estate's vineyards in Bolgheri, where the proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea, warm days, and cool nights create ideal conditions for slow, even ripening. Each grape variety is vinified separately to preserve its individual character before the final blend is matured for several months in French oak barrels. The 2024 vintage is defined by freshness, refined structure, and expressive fruit, making it approachable in its youth while offering excellent ageing potential.

Dating back to the beginning of the 1980s, Le Macchiole is one of the historic wineries in Bolgheri, and over the years, it has become a reference point for quality Tuscan wine. Founders Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli were among the region’s pioneers, and they contributed in a significant way to Bolgheri’s growing fame thanks to their work in creating wines full of character and personality that have become a symbol of the region. Today, Cinzia runs the winery with the essential support of her sons Elia and Mattia, who have become an important presence at the winery, together with a close team of enthusiastic colleagues. They have become one big family that never ceases to innovate and surprise themselves and one another. Ever changing in order to remain faithful to its original vision, Le Macchiole is in continuous evolution thanks to a careful, contemporary reading of wine and terroir. The conviction to pursue organic farming and an increasingly sustainable approach; a style that has become more and more defined, favoring refinement and elegance; and authenticity and personality have all become the defining characteristics of an historic winery that is nonetheless always moving forward, and always aware of the times.

The nose reveals aromas of ripe blackberry, blackcurrant, and black cherry, layered with Mediterranean herbs, violet, black pepper, cedar, and subtle cocoa nuances. On the palate, the wine is juicy, concentrated, and elegantly structured, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and excellent balance. The finish is long, silky, and persistent, with lingering notes of dark berries, spice, and minerality.

An excellent pairing for grilled beef, lamb chops, duck breast, veal tenderloin, wild mushroom dishes, pasta with rich ragù, and aged hard cheeses. Its generous fruit, refined structure, and freshness make it an ideal companion to both classic Tuscan cuisine and contemporary Mediterranean dishes.

A single-varietal Cabernet Franc wine has medium body and exhibit graphite, green bell pepper and red licorice notes, with darker wines showing more cigar and leather flavors.
Bolgheri is a relatively new but prestigious Italian resort on the Tuscan coast, located in the Maremma, south of Livorno, and named after a town in the north of the region. It is known mainly for its vibrant, full-bodied and undoubtedly valuable red wines, usually produced using French grape varieties from Bordeaux. The wine-growing area has gentle vineyards near the Tyrrhenian Sea. Back in the 1970s, the region had a low reputation for wine production. Here, in a rather swampy area, atypical white and rosé wines were produced. It used to be that this area, unlike the classic Tuscan vineyards, is better suited for other types of agriculture. But that all changed in 1978 when, in a blind tasting run by Decanter magazine, a wine called Sassicaia from Bolgheri surpassed the great wines of Bordeaux.
The hilly terrain and warm climate make Tuscany an ideal region for winemaking. It ranks third by the amount DOC and DOCG category wines after Piemonte and Veneto. Currently the most popular variety is the noble Sangiovese - it is extremely thermophilic and successfully reveals its best traits in warm climates. Wines have a lovely structure, velvety tannins and a fruity aroma, the color is rich ruby red, but the most distinguishable flavor notes are cherries, raspberries and spices.
