Francis Orban Blanc de Noirs Extra-Brut “Hauts-Beugnets” 2018

Pinot Meunier | Champagne | France | Sparkling Wine | Francis Orban | 2018 | 0,75 L | 12 %
About
Francis Orban Blanc de Noirs Extra‑Brut “Hauts‑Beugnets” 2018 is a dry Champagne made exclusively from Pinot Meunier grapes in the Vallée de la Marne region of Champagne, France. This single-vineyard cuvée comes from the “Les Hauts-Beugnets” parcel in the village of Leuvrigny. The soil is characterised by clay and limestone — a terroir that gives the wine its freshness and finesse. The wine is produced under the Extra-Brut style.
Tasting notes

On the nose, the wine reveals aromas of yellow and stone fruits — think yellow plum, dried apricot, and ripe yellow apple — along with subtle touches of brioche and a hint of honeyed richness. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with a medium-plus body and pronounced acidity balancing a juicy, mineral-tinged fruitiness. The finish is long and elegant, with a clean, saline mineral note that underlines the wine’s finesse and aging potential.

Pairing

This Champagne pairs beautifully with shellfish or oysters, smoked fish, or light seafood dishes — the acidity and freshness lift the briny and delicate flavours. It also works well with soft cheeses or light starters, where its mineral freshness and fruit-driven profile can shine.

Pinot Meunier varietal red wine is often lighter in color than Pinot Noir, but its acidity are little bit higher. It can taste of ripe blueberries, candys, sometimes with light smoky hints. Mostly, this grape is used for sparkling wine production.
The Champagne region combines specific climate, soil, and topography conditions that form a unique terroir currently used by approx. 15 000 vine-growers and 300 wine houses. The region has 4 sub-regions - Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Bar. Each provides customers with a different style of sparkling wine. The dominant grapes are Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier which are mainly used in Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne, while Chardonnay shows excellent results in Côte des Blancs. The region is even more appealing because of the so-called "Growe's Champagne" wines, the production of which is overseen by one family from start to finish - they grow and press grapes, make wine, and bottle it in the territory of one wine house. This gives the wine a true charm, aura, and unique flavor.
