Domaine de la Pépière “Clisson” Muscadet-Sevre-et-Main 2023

SKU: FRLODLPWIWH275023 Category:
Melon de Bourgogne | Loire | France | White Wine | Domaine de la Pepiere | 2023 | 0,75 L | 13,5 %
About
Domaine de la Pépière “Clisson” 2023 originates from the prestigious Clisson cru, known for its warmer microclimate and granite soils. This Melon de Bourgogne is aged extensively on lees (sur lie), giving the wine depth, a rounded texture, and a distinctive character. The Clisson style is recognized for its richer, more mature profile compared to classic Muscadet, making it especially appealing for those seeking greater complexity.
Producer
On the very border of Brittany, in the village of Maisdon-sur-Sèvre, there is the Domaine de la Pépière winery. Mark, who grew up in the village of La Pepierre, created the winery in 1984. The name La Pépierre comes from the French word "pépie" (thirst). Walking over the village, on the slopes where the grapes grow, it is easy to understand the origin of the name. Over the years of development, the winery "Domaine de la Pépière" acquired new sites, closely monitored the quality and age of the vines, as well as the originality of their terroirs.
Tasting notes

The nose reveals ripe yellow fruits, baked apple, citrus peel, and subtle spice, layered with pronounced minerality. On the palate, the wine is fuller and rounder, with fresh yet well-integrated acidity, a gentle saline touch, and a long, structured finish. Creamy texture with a medium body and notable depth.

Pairing

Ideal with richer seafood dishes such as butter-poached fish, lobster, or creamy seafood sauces, where the wine’s structure and texture complement the dish’s intensity. It also pairs beautifully with white meats, poultry, and aged cheeses, thanks to its depth and balance.

Melon de Bourgogne variety tipically has high acidity, but often struggles to develop good concentration of aromas. The best wines have green apple and lime flavors, covered with mineral notes and light salty hints.
Muscadet-Sevre-et-Maine
This region is located on the Left bank almost next to the ocean. The local winemakers are very meticulous and careful, therefore are known for very qualitative wines. They are produced form Melon de Bourgogne grapes that are cultivated near and on the banks of the River Sevres and the River Maine. The fresh, creamy wines with green apple and iodine notes in the aroma are recommended to be consumed after a few years of ageing. A perfect partner for oysters.
Loire is one of the biggest regions in Northern France. This beautiful valley that stretches more than 300 km in length has been the inspiration of poetry and art throughout the ages. The dominant grapes are different in each part of Loire, and this is the only region in France that produces equally good white, red, rose, dessert and sparkling wines.
