Cantina di Prisco Taurasi DOCG 2017

SKU: ITCACPRWIRE175017 Category:
Aglianico | Campania | Italy | Red Wine | Di Prisco | 2017 | 0,75 L | 14,5 %
About
Cantina di Prisco Taurasi DOCG 2017 is a dry red wine made from 100% Aglianico grapes, sourced from the Taurasi region in Campania, Italy. This prestigious DOCG wine showcases the unique terroir of southern Italy, known for producing structured and age-worthy reds. The 2017 vintage reflects traditional winemaking methods combined with careful aging, resulting in a wine of depth and complexity.
Producer
The Di Prisco winery was created in 1995 by the stubborn Pasqualino di Prisco, who inherited an estate in Fontanarosa, province of Avellino, from his father and grandfather. With the desire to make famous local grape varieties that almost no one had heard of outside Irpinia (for example, Greco di Tufo, Aglianico, Fiano and Coda di Volpe), Pasqualino created his own winery by rebuilding a building that had previously been used as a stable and equipping it with the most modern equipment for wine production.
Tasting notes

Cantina di Prisco Taurasi DOCG 2017 offers an intense bouquet of dark cherry, blackberry, and plum, enriched by hints of tobacco, leather, and earthy spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm, well-integrated tannins and lively acidity, presenting flavors of ripe black fruit balanced by savory notes and a long, persistent finish. This wine reveals a refined structure and a harmonious blend of fruit and mature complexity.

Pairing

This Taurasi DOCG pairs excellently with rich meat dishes such as braised beef, lamb stew, or game, where its robust character can shine. It also complements aged cheeses and hearty pasta dishes with savory sauces, enhancing the overall dining experience.

Aglianico is a dark-skinned grape variety native to southern Italy, renowned for producing full-bodied, robust wines with the potential for aging gracefully over many years. Known for its strong tannins, high acidity, and distinctive notes of dark fruits, spices, and earth, Aglianico is often compared to the Nebbiolo of Piedmont, earning it the nickname "Barolo of the South." This grape thrives in the volcanic soils of regions like Campania and Basilicata, where it expresses a deep, complex character and a remarkable depth of flavor, making it one of Italy's most prestigious and sought-after wines.
When it comes to nature this region is very rich - it has a blue sea, a mild climate and a fertile soil. All this creates the perfect conditions for winemaking and allows the production of a wide wine variety from dry and sweet to sparkling and fortified wines. Campania produces wine of all three quality control categories - DOC, DOCG and IGT. A wide diversity of varieties is allowed, but the main grape is Aglianico which produces rich red wines that absorb all the nature's abundance.
