Wine Searcher review
This is a dry Valpolicella Classico Ripasso DOC made from ~70% Corvina, ~20% Corvinone and ~10% Rondinella. The wine is produced in the ripasso style by adding Amarone pomace during fermentation for enhanced intensity and tannic structure. Deep ruby color; aromas of cherries, berries, spices and floral hints; palate is balanced, energetic and texturally refined with soft yet firm tannins. Best at 16–18 °C, pairs well with grilled meat, tomato‑based pasta or hearty poultry dishes.
Deep ruby red with garnet highlights. The bouquet reveals red fruit medley—cherry, blackcurrant—with spice and violet florals. On the palate it’s juicy, well-structured and full-bodied, with crisp acidity and polished tannins. The finish is long, elegant and mineral-tinged, characteristic of a refined ripasso wine.
Ca’ La Bionda, based in Marano di Valpolicella, Veneto, operates organically over ~29 ha planted in classic Classico hillside vineyards, rich with limestone and clay soils. Their Ripasso wines, including “Malavoglia,” rely on Amarone pomace to re-ferment the Valpolicella must, imparting additional complexity, depth and texture.
