Bruno Rocca Barbera D’Alba DOC 2023

SKU: ITPIROCWIRE275023 Category:
Barbera | Piedmont | Italy | Red Wine | Bruno Rocca | 2023 | 0,75 L | 14 %
About
Bruno Rocca Barbera d’Alba DOC 2023 is a dry red wine made 100% from Barbera grapes in the Piedmont region of Italy, from vineyards in the Neive area (notably the Currà and Fausoni crus). The wine is vinified in stainless-steel tanks and then aged for about 12 months in French oak barriques, giving it both freshness and subtle oak-derived complexity.
Producer
Notary documents from the 19th century attest to the presence of the Rocca family in the township of Barbaresco since 1834, the same year ancestor Francesco (1834-1894) was born. In 1864, Francesco drafted the prenuptial agreements with his future wife, Luigia Cheinasso. In the document, Francesco is defined as “a farmer born and living in Barbaresco”, the co-owner with his brother Giuseppe of “houses, sites, vineyards, and slopes” located within the township. According to later documents, our family’s activity revolved around a multi-purpose farm. Viniculture was an important part of the household finances alongside fields for foraging and raising livestock. In 1958, he moved to live in Rabaja near the gardens. In 1978, he releases the first wine under his own name and with his own label. Before that, the family gave their grapes to a cooperative that bottled their wines separately and marketed them under a separate brand. In 1990, the family began to expand and bought vineyards outside Barbaresco. Other styles began to be made, such as: Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Alba and d'Asti, Dolcetto.
Tasting notes

In the glass it shows an intense garnet to deep ruby red colour. On the nose, aromas of ripe plum, blackberry and dark cherry are pronounced, complemented by delicate hints of pink pepper and toasted almond. On the palate the wine is warm, harmonious and richly textured, with a round, savoury character and a persistent, elegant finish.

Pairing

This versatile red pairs beautifully with grilled meats, hearty pasta (especially baked pasta or pasta with rich sauces), and aged cheeses. It also complements dishes with robust flavors such as grilled vegetables or meat stews, making it an excellent choice for convivial meals.

Barbera is a red Italian wine grape variety that, as of 2000, was the third most-planted red grape variety in Italy (after Sangiovese and Montepulciano). It produces good yields and is known for wines that are deep colored, full bodied, low tannin and with high levels of acidity.
The Langhe is a mountainous region of Piedmont located east of the Tanaro River and south of the capital of Alba. Lange has a long history of winemaking, and many of the wines produced here use traditional, well-established grape varieties such as Arneis and Vermentino for white wines, and Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Freisa for reds. Since its official launch in November 1994, Langhe DOC has built a significant reputation for innovative viticulture. The Langhe wine region, known as the 'quality triangle', is made up of a unique combination of climate, soil and local varieties that create a rich wine range. Also, one cannot fail to note the passion and obsession of local producers who fully devote their whole life to serving their land.
