About
Avignonesi Il Marzocco Toscana IGT 2023 is a dry white wine crafted exclusively from 100% Chardonnay grapes, cultivated in the esteemed Tuscany region of Italy. This wine exemplifies Avignonesi's dedication to sustainable and organic viticulture, resulting in an elegant and dynamic expression of the Chardonnay varietal. The name "Il Marzocco" pays homage to a stone lion, symbolizing wisdom and strength, reflecting the wine's character.
Producer
Winery named after the first owners - the Avignonesi family. Since its foundation, it has experienced an exciting journey. Virginia Saverisa acquired the Avignonesi distillery in 2009. Avignonesi has become a leader in biodynamic viticulture in Italy. Since its acquisition, and thanks to Virginia's respect for the ecosystem, its employees and end consumers, the winery has begun to produce and make organic wines that are truly authentic in their origins.
Tasting notes

Il Marzocco 2023 presents an ample and intense bouquet, featuring sensuous notes of golden apple, honeysuckle, and exotic fruits such as pineapple, kumquat, and lychee. These aromas are layered with hints of candied orange zest, freshly cut grass, and subtle spicy undertones. On the palate, the wine is full yet lively, blending fruity notes with distinctive mineral qualities, leading to a luscious, long finish.

Pairing

This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including roasted vegetables with pasta, legumes, spaghetti with tomato sauce, snails with mint, Genoese pesto, cheeses, and various cured meats. Its versatility also complements lean fish and vegetarian dishes, enhancing the dining experience.

The hilly terrain and warm climate make Tuscany an ideal region for winemaking. It ranks third by the amount DOC and DOCG category wines after Piemonte and Veneto. Currently the most popular variety is the noble Sangiovese - it is extremely thermophilic and successfully reveals its best traits in warm climates. Wines have a lovely structure, velvety tannins and a fruity aroma, the color is rich ruby red, but the most distinguishable flavor notes are cherries, raspberries and spices.
