Wine Searcher review
Alain Burguet "Mes Favorites" Gevrey-Chambertin 2023 is a dry red wine from the prestigious Gevrey-Chambertin AOC in Burgundy, France, crafted from 100% Pinot Noir grown on steep vineyard sites with vines averaging 75 years of age.
The grapes are organically grown and fermented in stainless steel using indigenous yeasts, followed by approximately three weeks of maceration. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, with 30–50% new oak, developing remarkable depth, refined structure, and aromatic complexity.
The result is an expressive and sophisticated Gevrey-Chambertin that beautifully combines concentrated red fruit, silky tannins, and the distinctive earthy elegance of Burgundy Pinot Noir.
Deep, rich ruby-red in colour. The nose reveals expressive aromas of dark fruits, including cherries, plums, and blackcurrants, complemented by delicate spice notes of cinnamon, liquorice, and vanilla, alongside earthy forest-floor nuances. Full-bodied on the palate, the wine offers velvety tannins, concentrated juicy fruit, and elegant minerality. The finish is long, refined, and beautifully persistent.
An excellent match for rich slow-cooked stews, game dishes, grilled beef, and mushroom ragout. It also pairs beautifully with roast duck and aged cheeses, where its generous fruit character, silky tannins, and earthy complexity complement the depth and richness of the dishes.
