De Montal armagnac XO Eden Carafe 0,7
Armagnac AOC | Armagnac | N.V. | 0,7 L | 40 % | De Montal
About
De Montal XO “Eden” is a refined, long-aged Armagnac presented in a luxurious carafe, making it both a sensory and visual delight. XO (Extra Old) signifies that the youngest eaux-de-vie in the blend is at least 10 years old, though De Montal typically uses much older components. This spirit reflects the soul of Gascony – deep, warm, and beautifully complex.
Producer
DeMontal have probably the most modern distillery in the region and their methods of both viticulture and viniculture are hugely sophisticated. DeMontal makes great armagnac but also many wines from their 700 hectare estate. The advantages are that their quality is always exceptionally high and individuality between vintages is much harder to identify. The distillery is state of the art and it is claimed that the grapes spend less than 10 minutes between vineyard and press to minimize SO2 content. The pressings are in stainless steel pneumatic drums and the distillation is on very light lees. The method of vinification is altogether natural, the addition of anything artificial being forbidden. The wine is distilled right after harvest time so as to preserve a maximum amount of aromas. Stability of DeMontal quality is quite unique!
Tasting notes
On the nose – dried plums, figs, candied orange peel, roasted nuts, and warming spices. The palate is silky and full-bodied, with a long, elegant finish showing notes of vanilla, honey, toasted oak, and dark chocolate. A sophisticated spirit for slow sipping and appreciation.
Pairing
Best enjoyed neat as a digestif, at room temperature. It pairs wonderfully with dark chocolate desserts, blue cheese (such as Roquefort), or a fine cigar. Its complexity also makes it ideal for solo meditation and tasting moments.
