The surname Mello appears in local chronicles already in the 16th century, namely in 1513. Even then, the life of the family depended on vines and was devoted to the production of top quality wines. At the beginning of the 19th century, Alphonse Mello opened a tavern in Sancerre. By offering local visitors to the tavern, the tavern was the first step towards a successful wine trade. In 1881, he received a license to supply his wine throughout France and around the world. The license served as the beginning of the worldwide development of the family business, which was passed down from father to son from generation to generation, and today the family business is run by the eldest son of the family, named after the founder, Alphonse.
Today, the age-old traditions of the production of Mellot wine are continued by father and son,
18th and 19th descendant of the great Alphonse Mello.
