Bodegas Estefania
All products from this vendorWinery Bodegas Estefanía was founded in 1999 by the Frias family on the site of an old oil mill in the village of Dejesas in Ponferrada. In 2014, she became part of the MGWines Group. The name of the main brand of the winery - Tilenus - comes from the name of the primitive war god of the Celts, Teleno, and became a tribute to the golden years of the Roman era in Bierzo, when the development of gold mines in Medulas began. The Bodegas Estefanía winery is built of shale, stone and wood in the architectural style typical of the region. Each stage of wine production is carried out in a special way under specific temperature conditions, a certain light regime and humidity.
Mencia red wines have vivid beetroot color, refreshing acidity and soft tannins. Flavors tend to show earthy, vegetal characters with berry hints and stony minerality.
Hidden from everyone and incredibly beautiful, little-known Bierzo with tranquil countryside is a region for wine lovers looking to discover something new. This green northwestern part of Spain, whose mountainous landscape is shrouded in mountains between Castile-Leon and Galicia, was almost unknown ten years ago. Today, however, the once-Roman mining region has a promising future as one of Spain's new wine centers with mineral-rich shale soils and a continental climate. Fearless local winemakers have teamed up to create truly memorable red and white wines. The vineyards themselves are considered one of the most beautiful in Spain. Many of them are planted on scenic terraces along the banks of the Silas River Valley, which is why mules are used for harvesting in some particularly steep areas. The soils range from alluvial at the riverbed to stony and clayey at higher elevations. The vineyards, planted at an altitude of 1000 meters, are dominated by moderate rainfall and a relatively mild climate thanks to the mountains that protect them from the vagaries of the Atlantic Ocean.
Castile and Leon is located in the north of the central Pyrenees and is the largest of 17 regional regions in Spain, covering about a fifth of the total territory in the country. The Autonomous Community of Castile and León emerged in 1983 when two historic provinces were united: León and Castilla la Vieja. The region is dominated by red wines and the king is undoubtedly the Tempranillo grape. Here he is known by different names: Tinta del Pais, Tinto de Toro and Tinto Fino. The white wines of Castile and Leon are much smaller than the reds, but they are no less prestigious. They are made mainly from the white grapes Verdejo and Viura. Although the region's economy has traditionally focused on cereals, viticulture has been considered an important economic activity for over 2000 years. At the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, the area of vineyards decreased significantly, and the emphasis shifted from quantity to quality. Today Castile and Leon is home to some of the most respected wines from production zones such as Ribera del Duero, Toro, Rueda and Bierzo.
