Wine Searcher review
Dragon de Quintus Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2018 is the second wine of Château Quintus, crafted from carefully selected Merlot and Cabernet Franc grown in the prestigious Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation of Bordeaux. It reflects the refined style of Château Quintus, offering an elegant balance of ripe fruit, structure, and terroir expression. The outstanding 2018 vintage is regarded as one of Bordeaux's finest in recent decades, providing exceptional concentration, ripe tannins, and impressive ageing potential. Ageing in French oak barrels adds complexity and depth while preserving the purity and freshness of the fruit.
The bouquet reveals ripe blackcurrant, black plum, and cherry aromas layered with violet, cedar, tobacco, dark chocolate, and sweet spice notes. Full-bodied, velvety, and elegantly structured on the palate, the wine displays refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, harmonious finish.
Perfect with beef tenderloin, lamb, duck, game, truffle dishes, mushroom risotto, and long-aged cheeses. Its rich structure and aromatic complexity make it an excellent partner for classic French cuisine.
Château Quintus is a prestigious Saint-Émilion estate owned by Domaine Clarence Dillon, the family behind the legendary Château Haut-Brion. The name “Quintus” was inspired by the ancient Roman tradition of naming the fifth child Quintus, symbolizing the estate’s new era and significance. The vineyards are located on one of the highest points of the Saint-Émilion plateau, benefiting from excellent sun exposure and exceptional terroir. Château Quintus focuses on precision, sustainable viticulture, and the pursuit of classic Bordeaux elegance.
